1God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. 2Therefore will not we fear, though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; 3Though the waters thereof roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with the swelling thereof. Selah.
Bible Verses for Times of Trouble
When life falls apart, the Bible does not pretend trouble isn't real. Instead it speaks of God as a refuge, a very present help, and near to the brokenhearted.
17The righteous cry, and the LORD heareth, and delivereth them out of all their troubles. 18The Lord is nigh unto them that are of a broken heart; and saveth such as be of a contrite spirit.
The LORD is good, a strong hold in the day of trouble; and he knoweth them that trust in him.
These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.
Fear thou not; for I am with thee: be not dismayed; for I am thy God: I will strengthen thee; yea, I will help thee; yea, I will uphold thee with the right hand of my righteousness.
And call upon me in the day of trouble: I will deliver thee, and thou shalt glorify me.
8We are troubled on every side, yet not distressed; we are perplexed, but not in despair; 9Persecuted, but not forsaken; cast down, but not destroyed;
God as refuge
The Psalms are full of honest cries in trouble and of trust that God hears. Psalm 46 pictures the earth giving way, and still God is a refuge and strength.
You are not alone
Jesus told His disciples plainly that in this world they would have trouble, and in the same breath told them to take heart. Paul described being pressed on every side but not crushed.
